What is a school council?
A school council is group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their school.

What does it do?
A school council does a number of things:
  • The school council meets - with a teacher present - to discuss and sort out problems. These may include school lunches, behaviour or ideas for fundraising events.
  • Members of the school council will be responsible for carrying out the ideas that have been agreed, such as planning discos, writing newspaper articles, or meeting with staff.

What jobs are there?
Each year, every class will elect 2 representatives (4 from year 6) to be members of the school council.

The council will then meet to elect officers such as:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Secretary

In September, the School Council team helped the PTA at our first event of the year the Macmillan coffee afternoon. They welcomed the patents onto the playground and helped by selling cakes and biscuits. As a school we raised £290!
Over the years the School Council have helped to organise events to raise money for many charities including Children in Need and Battersea Cats and Dogs home.
One event saw us taking part in a non uniform day where the children dressed up as a pet. We had lots of cats and dogs and even a few ninja turtles!
In the afternoon we celebrated with a tea party where the school council sold cakes. In total we raised £576.60 for these charities! Thank you SWOP!
